Sig Xm5 Price - The US Army has selected Sig Sauer as the preferred contractor for its Next Generation Weapons (NGSW) program.
According to an April 19 announcement, the company has been awarded a 10-year fixed-price contract to manufacture and deliver two variations of the NGSW (the XM5 Rifle and XM250 Assault Rifle) and the 6.8 round family of ammunition.

The Army revealed the winner after 27 months of prototyping and evaluation, which included extensive technical and soldier touchpoint testing of three competing prototype systems.

The XM5 rifle will replace the M4/M4A1 carbine within the melee force, and the XM250 assault rifle is the planned replacement for the M249 squad automatic weapon.
“Both weapons provide significant capability improvements in accuracy, range, and overall lethality. They are lightweight, fire more lethal rounds, attenuate recoil, improve barrel performance, and include integrated muzzle sound and flash reduction,” the Army said.

Both weapons fire regular 6.8mm ammo, which includes various types of tactical and training rounds that increase accuracy and are more lethal against new threats than 5.56mm and 7.62mm ammo.

A military nonprofit hopes to raise about $20,000 by auctioning the civilian version of the Army's next-generation squad weapon next week during the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Tampa, Florida. Twenty grand might seem like a lot - especially considering the retail price is listed at $7,999 - but that's not an unheard of asking price for a Sig Sauer MCX Spear if you can find it in stock. Additionally, the rifle will be sold as a kit that includes other military equipment such as the TANGO6T scope and Sig SLX Suppressor, which together cost around $3,000.

The Sig MCX Spear is in many ways like the NGSW rifle, which is heralded as the latest and greatest in firearms technology. The most notable difference between the two is that the civilian variant - at least the one up for auction - is reserved for 6.8 Creedmoor rather than Sig's .277 Fury cartridge. However, it is a multi-caliber gun, so you may want to change the barrel to recalibrate. Army Awards Next Generation Squad Weapon Contract
Designed by SIG Sauer for the 2022 next generation weapons program to replace the M4 carbine. The XM5 features a heavy-duty, free-floating M-LOK handguard for direct attachment of accessories to "negative space" (hollow hole) mounting points.
