How many households in North Carolina are eligible for this payment? To give you an idea, I downloaded 2017 personal income and tax data for North Carolina from the IRS.
Everything You Need To Know About Your Stimulus Check And Taxes This Year
First, a brief explanation of how this economic stimulus check is regulated: Economic impact payments distributed by the IRS have a maximum income threshold based on tax return status. If someone's Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is less than this amount, they automatically qualify for the full incentive. The amount of incentives provided decreases as income exceeds this threshold, until it disappears entirely for individuals and households with higher incomes.
Based on 2017 tax return data, most North Carolina individual claimants will claim the full amount: Nearly 1.9 million or 92% of single claimants had an AGI of less than $75,000 in 2017; Another 4% have an AGI between $75,000 and $99,999, indicating partial stimulus. More than 4% of North Carolina flat tax filers in 2017 will have too high an adjusted gross income to accept any economic stimulus.
Nearly all returning North Carolina "heads of household", especially single parents, will be eligible for the full stimulus amount based on the 2017 income distribution: 97% of reporting household heads have an AGI of less than $100,000. The remaining 2% have an AGI between $100,000 and $199,999, which means that some of them may qualify for full stimulus (up to $112,500) and others for partial stimulus.
While households that married or registered jointly had higher adjusted gross income reflecting two incomes rather than just one, many of these households were also eligible for the full stimulus amount. In 2017, more than half (54%) of joint applicants had an AGI of less than $100,000. Another 26% have an adjusted gross income between $100,000 and $200,000; most of these people will receive a full or partial incentive. Only 10% of households applying jointly have an AGI above $200,000, making their income too high for any incentive, although households above this threshold may still receive some incentives if they have dependent children.

Millions of Americans have asked the federal government to share additional stimulus checks, and many North Carolina residents could accept them if Gov. Roy Cooper's proposal is approved.
Cooper, a Democrat, proposed this week to the North Carolina government to provide direct payments of up to $500 to many North Carolina residents. The Governor called the plan "Supplemental Loan Grant 2.0" and is pushing to continue the program approved by Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly last September to provide $335 to the state's more than one million households.

Under the proposal, a single person making just $15,000 or less a year would receive $500, while couples who filed together and earn up to $30,000 could receive $500. Individuals earning up to $30,000 or couples earning up to $60,000 per year will receive a $250 payout.
